Emotional Distress Clinical Specialist | Safety Project is a remote freelance opportunity with Vetto. About the project We are opening a freelance opportunity for the Safety Project — Emotional Distress (Clinical track), a project focused on evaluating how AI systems respond in sensitive conversations involving emotional distress, suicidal ideation, and depression. The goal of this project is to assess whether the AI can respond with empathy, responsibility, and appropriate safety awareness in high-risk emotional scenarios. In this track, selected contributors will perform two complementary activities: Role-play — participate in structured multi-turn conversations with an AI system, acting according to a predefined persona and scenario representative of real clinical presentations. Evaluation — review AI responses against clinical criteria, assessing risk recognition, appropriateness of safety messaging, empathy, accuracy of psychoeducation, and adherence to evidence-based crisis-response practices. This dual contribution is what makes the clinical track distinct: we need professionals who can both embody a sensitive scenario and judge the AI's response with clinical rigor. What you'll do Conduct role-play sessions as a clinically informed persona across multi-turn conversations Evaluate AI responses for safety, empathy, clinical appropriateness, and risk handling Provide structured written feedback grounded in clinical reasoning Flag responses that miss risk signals, give unsafe guidance, or fall short of best-practice crisis communication Skills: Who can apply Licensed or formally trained professionals in psychiatry, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, psychiatric nursing, or related mental health fields — including those working in crisis centers, helplines, or other mental health support environments. Experience in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, or risk assessment is highly valued. Requirements
Applicants should bring demonstrated experience in Data Engineering, Data Analysis, Mobile Development, App Performance, Clinical Knowledge, Medical Review. Required working language: English. The role requires clear communication, analytical thinking, and dependable independent work. Helpful additional experience includes Model evaluation. Candidates should be able to document their reasoning, review work carefully, and contribute accurate outputs under remote project conditions.
